Mark Krikorian writes in National Review that yesterday’s New York City bombing underscores the urgency of adopting a merit-based immigration system—not one based on a random visa lottery.
Krikorian reports that Bangladeshi jihadist Akayed Ullah came to America “on what amounts to a nephew visa.” What’s more, the family member he followed only received entry by virtue of winning the U.S. visa lottery. Krikorian quotes Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), who on the floor of the Senate last week asked, “Shouldn’t we have an immigration system that focuses on the needs of America’s workers and economy, not one that gives out green cards by random chance?” The answer is a resounding yes.

Everyone makes mistakes, Pruden writes, but “sometimes the mistakes are not really mistakes, but failed attempts to get away with fudging the facts to make a point.” And the public notices when those mistakes always seem to drift to the left.

According to The Wall Street Journal’s James Freeman, “We’re certainly living in strange times when the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee is among the most media-friendly lawmakers in Washington.” Freeman suggests that times would be a little less strange if the major networks hesitated in airing these “fact-free allegations” against Rep. Adam Schiff’s (D-CA) political adversaries.
