Thank you for your email. My staff is closely reviewing your correspondence to ensure your views, questions, and concerns are addressed. As President, I have no higher obligation than maintaining the safety of the American people, especially our Nation’s young people. Following the horrific tragedy that occurred in Parkland, Florida, earlier this year, I took immediate action to secure our schools by establishing the Federal Commission on School Safety (Commission) and directing it to provide a comprehensive set of policy recommendations for keeping our schools safe. Over the past year, the Commission has listened to students and educators, local and State officials, first-responders, and the general public, soliciting input and feedback as it drafted a formal report to the President on school safety. Today, I am hosting a roundtable to mark the public release of the Commission’s report. I will be joined by members of the Commission, State and local law enforcement officials, the families of school shooting victims, and educators. I encourage you to tune into the discussion at 2:15PM this afternoon. Thank you again for taking the time to write. Together, we will help ensure all of our Nation’s young people have every opportunity to reach their full potential and achieve their American Dream. Sincerely, |
