Japan's real gross domestic product (GDP) for the April-June quarter was a year-on-year decrease of 27.8%,
the largest drop since World War II.
Both domestic and external demand deteriorated due to the spread of new coronavirus infection.
In particular, personal consumption, which accounts for the majority of GDP,
fell sharply due to going out and refraining from sales at restaurants.
Although a recoil increase is expected in the July-September quarter,
a strong recovery is unlikely to be expected due to concerns about further spread of infection.
According to the first bulletin of the national income statistics for April-June 2020,
released by the Cabinet Office on the 17th, the real GDP declined by 7.8% compared to the previous quarter.
The annualized rate was 27.8%, the worst deterioration since 1980, when the current standards are comparable.
Almost the same as Reuters' previous forecast (annual rate-27.2%).
The contribution of domestic demand was minus 4.8% and the external demand was minus 3.0%.
