Currently, only 13 countries and the Holy See recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state. Many residents of Taiwan identify themselves as "Taiwanese". However, few people declare independence as a Taiwanese state. Taiwanese avoid war.
The danger is the US government. If you do this, you will start a war. China has good reason to attack Taiwan. The United States has no good reason to defend Taiwan. The United States is "torturing itself." We have no choice but to "watch quietly" Taiwan.
